March Madness

Do you feel it creeping up on you, Spring Time?  I know I do and here at SJO Electric we are anticipating a busy and fruitful change of the seasons.  Please remember and spread the word;  For the month of March SJO will replace batteries in all your smoke/CO2 detectors – for FREE – with the completion of any electrical service.  For your safety, and that of your loved ones, call us or remember to change those batteries yourself.

That being said we want to talk about a few things you, as homeowners, will want to begin thinking on and planning for.  With the inevitable appearance of green grass, new flowers and buds on the trees we often get weird weather patterns happening here in Colorado.  We can surely expect snow, rain and wind.

Now is a time to take a look at all those trees and shrubs in your yard.  Does it look like a wet, heavy March snow might snap some of those branches and tear down your electrical lines?  This can be a serious problem inherent with danger and electricity is an area rife with myths and safety precautions.  Should you need trees trimmed, especially those around or intertwined with electrical wires perhaps it is time to call in your local certified arborist, the professional who knows how to, when to and why to trim your trees and shrubs.  We use and highly recommend Gabe Fielding and his crew at Fielding Tree and Shrub Care in Centennial, CO.  Give them a call for the best possible care of your landscaping trees and shrubs.  Should you, for any reason, have downed power lines please contact Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999.

Plan ahead, check your AC to see that it is working properly, if it is not you haveas little time to address the issues before the weather turns hot.  Should you require any assistance with your AC or heating systems call an experienced HVAC company.  Our recommendation is Von Ertzwiler with Comfy Cave Heating and Air Conditioning at 303-564-7114, we wouldn’t call on anybody else for our comfort.

Last on today’s list is this.  Please check your exterior outlets to make sure they are functioning and protected.   To prevent electrical shock it is very important that all exterior outlets are weatherproof with a locking cover.  Being exposed to the elements, especially the unpredictable and sometimes insane weather we experience here, could cause permanent failure in exterior outlets requiring replacement for safety and functionality.  Be sure you are protected, if you see visible damage or if you have any doubts, call the pros to check it out and replace if necessary.  Call SJO, we’ll keep you grounded.

Thanks for reading and have an electric day!!
